‘Second Glaze, as Seen Through the Eyes of Manboy’, or ‘Profile of a French Perfectionist’:
2009 July 13
About an hour after innocently posting an unfinished oil painting in order to share and chart its progress, I received an email from Manboy, with neither subject nor content, only this image as an attatchment:

Pride cometh before a, er… Frenchman.

Sheesh.
You are obviously used to this. Right? Because if not, you are astoundingly stoic. Bravo for a little humour in the face of French critics, huh?
I am used to it, and generally I like it, because he does love what I paint and tends to show an interest in the works the appreciates the most. It’s his way of pushing me to make sure I don’t get lazy & just go with the problems, rather than overcoming them.
That said, this was the first time he did it in such a blunt way, rather than gently over a glass of wine/cup of coffee in the studio, together… verbally. So I do admit to getting my feathers ruffled a bit and it being a central point to yesterday’s dinnertime conversation.
I told him at the end that he set himself up and this was not going unblogged!
Perhaps I should send him my photos before I post them? I could use a good critique!
Bloody frenchman!
Haha, I’m sure he’d be happy to oblige.
